DIY Mossy Christmas Wreath

DIY Mossy Christmas Wreath

This year, why not craft a stunning, natural Christmas wreath using moss, dried lemons, cranberries, and pine cones—with no hot glue required! Using floral pins, this method is perfect for anyone looking to create a wreath with a more earthy, rustic feel. It’s easy to assemble, and you’ll be able to create a beautifully textured wreath that brings the cosy spirit of the holidays into your home.

Whether you’re looking for a natural touch on your front door or want to showcase your crafting skills on your mantle, this wreath will make a festive, welcoming statement. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need:

Wreath base (our straw wreath base preferably)

Fresh/ dried moss (different varieties' for more textured look)

Dried lemon slices (7-10 slices)

Cranberries (fresh, dried or fake)

Pine cones (small to medium-sized, around 5-7)

Moss pins (or floral pins)

Floral wire (for attaching delicate elements like cranberries and moss)

Scissors and floral wire cutters

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

  • Dried Lemons: If you have fresh lemons, slice them into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch). Dry them in the oven at 175°F (80°C) for about 2 hours, flipping them halfway. Alternatively, you can buy pre-dried lemon slices.
  • Cranberries: If using fresh cranberries, dry them by spreading them on a baking sheet and placing them in the oven at 170°F (75°C) for 2-3 hours. You can also use dried cranberries or fake pins like us.
  • Pine Cones: Gather your pine cones and give them a gentle cleaning by brushing off any dirt or debris. If you’d like to make them last longer, you can lightly spray them with a clear matte finish or set them out to dry. Alternatively, visit our Christmas silk section for some long lasting pine cones

Step 2: Attach the Moss

Start by creating a soft, green base for your wreath using the moss.

  • Take your fresh or dried moss and begin laying it along the wreath. You’ll want to cover the base entirely with moss to provide a lush, natural backdrop.
  • Use the moss pins to secure the moss in place by pushing the pins through the moss and into the wreath base. Alternatively, you can use wire to wrap around bigger chunks. Distribute the moss evenly around the frame, making sure it stays well attached.

Step 3: Add the Dried Lemons

Dried lemons are not only beautiful but also add a lovely zesty scent to your wreath. Since we’re using moss pins instead of hot glue, you can easily attach the lemon slices in a few simple steps.

  • Arrange the lemon slices in a visually appealing pattern. You can place them in clusters or scatter them evenly around the wreath.
  • Pin each lemon slice into the wreath by inserting moss pins through the edges of the lemon and into the moss. You want the pins to be discreet, so make sure they’re hidden behind the lemon slices.

Step 4: Add the Cranberries

Cranberries bring a vibrant, festive pop of colour to your wreath, and they’re easy to attach with either moss pins or floral wire.

If you're using fresh cranberries, handle them gently, as they can be delicate. You may also want to dry them beforehand to ensure they stay intact throughout the season. For faux clusters, simply pierce the straw with the wire.

Step 5: Attach the Pine Cones

Pine cones are a classic holiday element, and they’ll add a beautiful, natural texture to your wreath. They’re easy to attach using moss pins or floral wire.

Step 7: Final Adjustments

Once everything is in place, take a step back and look at your wreath. If you spot any gaps or areas that need a little more texture, feel free to add more moss, cranberries, or pine cones. Make sure all your elements are securely attached, and that the wreath feels balanced.

Optional: To protect your wreath for outdoor use, consider lightly spraying it with a clear matte sealant to preserve the natural elements and help them stay in place.

With this DIY wreath featuring moss, dried lemons, cranberries, and pine cones, you’ll have a stunning piece of holiday décor that is simple to make, eco-friendly, and full of natural charm. By using moss pins instead of hot glue, this wreath is easy to adjust and customize, so you can change or add elements over time.

This wreath will be a perfect addition to your front door, mantel, or even as a thoughtful, handmade gift. Plus, it’s a great way to embrace the beauty of nature during the festive season, all while keeping things sustainable and glue-free!

Happy crafting , and may your holiday season be filled with warmth, creativity, and the natural beauty of the season!
