Our Favourite Bedding Plants for June

June is one of our favourite months in the gardening calendar. The risk of frost has passed, the days are longer, and gardens are beginning to burst into colour. It's also the perfect time to refresh containers, hanging baskets, and borders with beautiful bedding plants that will keep performing right through summer.
At our Iver nursery, our team has been busy growing thousands of seasonal plants, carefully nurturing them to ensure they're healthy, colourful, and ready to thrive in your garden. There's something incredibly rewarding about seeing plants we've grown from the very beginning finding their way into local gardens and outdoor spaces.
If you're looking for inspiration, here are some of our favourite bedding plants for June.

Petunias
A summer classic and for good reason.
Petunias produce an abundance of colourful flowers throughout the season and are perfect for hanging baskets, containers, and window boxes. Available in a huge range of colours, they provide instant impact and will continue flowering for months with regular watering and feeding.
Geraniums (Pelargoniums)
One of our most popular bedding plants every year.
Geraniums are incredibly reliable, producing masses of vibrant blooms throughout summer while coping well with warm weather. They're ideal for pots, containers, and sunny borders, making them a fantastic choice for gardeners looking for long-lasting colour.
Lobelia
If you're creating hanging baskets, Lobelia is often the finishing touch.
Its delicate cascading flowers soften container displays beautifully and work wonderfully alongside petunias and geraniums. The vibrant blues, whites, and purples add a lovely contrast to brighter summer flowers.
Begonias
For shaded areas, Begonias are hard to beat.
They provide continuous colour throughout the season and require very little maintenance. Whether planted in pots, baskets, or borders, they're a fantastic option for bringing colour to those trickier spots in the garden.
Osteospermum
Often called African Daisies, these cheerful plants thrive in sunny conditions and continue flowering throughout summer.
Their vibrant daisy-like flowers open beautifully in the sunshine, making them perfect for patios and containers.
Bacopa
Bacopa produces masses of small flowers that spill gracefully over the edges of baskets and containers.
It's often overlooked but makes an excellent companion plant, helping create full and colourful summer displays.
Busy Lizzies (Impatiens)
Perfect for adding colour to shady corners.
Busy Lizzies flower continuously throughout summer and are available in a wide range of bright, cheerful colours. They perform brilliantly in containers and sheltered borders.
Marigolds
Bright, cheerful, and easy to grow.
Marigolds are fantastic for beginners and bring vibrant yellow, orange, and gold tones to the garden. They also attract pollinators and can be planted alongside vegetables to help encourage beneficial insects.
How to Get the Best from Bedding Plants
To keep your displays looking their best throughout summer:
Water regularly, especially during hot weather.
Feed weekly with a liquid fertiliser.
Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms.
Check hanging baskets daily during heatwaves.
Group containers together to help retain moisture.
A little regular care will reward you with months of colour.
